Writers

May 24, 2019

I thought it would be fun to compile a bunch of quotes about writers that I find amusing or that are actually true (or both). So here it is! I'll give credit when I can, but I may not have authors for all of these. Just know that none of them are mine (and they all came from Pinterest).

"The thing all writers do best is find ways to avoid writing." -- Alan Dean Foster. I can't even express how very true this is, sadly. But I find it funny.

"I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn." --Anne Frank. This is why we write.

"Writers aren't exactly people... They're a whole bunch of people trying to be one person." -- F. Scott Fitzgerald.

"I think new writers are too worried that it has all been said before. Sure it has, but not by you." -- Asha Dornfest. I just like this one.

"Beautiful writing isn't about the words we use. It's about the emotions we evoke." I don't know who wrote this one, but it's beautiful.

"I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by." -- Douglas Adams. This is too true, and I love it. In the words of Captain Jack Sparrow, "I like to wave at them as they pass by."

"A writer is a writer not because she writes well and easily, because she has amazing talent, or because everything she does is golden. A writer is a writer because, even when there is no hope, even when nothing you do shows any sign of promise, you keep writing anyway." -- Junot Diaz.

"Be courageous and try to write in a way that scares you a little." -- Holley Gerth. I just think this is a cool idea.

"Writers spend three years rearranging 26 letters of the alphabet. It's enough to make you lose your mind little by little every day." -- Richard Price. Yes. The only change I'd make to this is that it's not just three years. It's your whole life. But I believe this was meant about one book (which can take two months or twenty years, so it's still not quite accurate). But very true in the end.

"I still think most writers are just kids who refuse to grow up. We're still playing imaginary games with our imaginary friends." -- Ian Rankin. Truer words have never been spoken, so to speak. You nailed it, Ian Rankin. This is me. Exactly me.

And I think that's a good place to end. I wasn't counting as I went, but I ended up with ten quotes, so that seems perfect. :) I hope you enjoyed this! Sneak preview of what I have planned for next week (though it may change; you never know): it has to do with writers and hearts. ;) See you in a week! May your week be blessed and filled with joy and hope. :)
